Seabird and Whale Tales 2006
(Sponsored by The New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance)
June 11, 2006

What happens when the sand lances are near the surface?
Well, you get charismatic megafauna...

like Humpbacks, chowing down;

Sooty Shearwaters so full of fish that they could hardly take off;

Greater Shearwaters coming in to feast;

and Wilson's Storm-petrels looking for scraps.

Where there are concentrations of other seabirds, there are jaegers -

Like this Parasitic

or this one. If you are lucky at this time of year you might run into

a subadult Long-tailed Jaeger

like this one or

this one.

Thanks to Krill and the Captain John Boats for a great day!
