This afternoon, the Gyrfalcon was teed up out in the salt marsh north of Cross Hill for a while, then flew south along Grape Island to make a few runs at ducks in the river. It perched in a tree at the south end of that island, being harassed by some (relatively small) American Crows. Finally, it made another pass at the ducks and flew north, behind Grape Island. While it was perched out in the salt marsh, I attempted to take some photos through my scope. Bearing in mind that the bird was approx. 3/4 mile away (best estimate based on my topo map) and that it was an afternoon with nasty heat shimmer, I hesitantly present a couple of images (best I could do).
Oh, I threw in a shot of some of the Common Snipe (3) and Lesser Yellowlegs (3) at the Joppa Flats MAS pools.
