Essex County (MA) Birthday Birds

I went off solo birding today on my birthday, a fairly recent tradition. It's fun. I can talk to myself, chortle over nice birds, and do just exactly what I want, when I want. One of my stops was at the SPNEA property on Little's Lane in Newbury where I saw these Snow Buntings.

A little while later I was at Salisbury Beach Reservation when I noticed a lump in a bush.

Hmmm. Interesting lump. Further inspection revealed that the lump was a perched Short-eared Owl.

Well, you can see why it is a Short-eared Owl!
