Birding Costa Rica from North to South

Trip  |   Caribbean Lowlands  |   Mountains  |   Osa Peninsula  |  Farewell

I led a Mass Audubon tour to Costa Rica from April 5-15, 2015, with local guide Rudy Zamora. We visited these locations:

We started this tour in San Jose at the Hotel Bougainvilla, an amazing place with wonderful gardens

(this view from my room) and great birds....

Black-shouldered Kite

Clay-colored Thrush - the national bird of Costa Rica

Blue-crowned Motmot (a bit shy)

Inca Dove (not shy)

migrant Philadelphia Vireo

Rufous-naped Wren

Squirrel Cuckoo

Prevost's Ground-Sparrow

Rufous-tailed Hummingbird (odd posture due to being rescued from inside the hotel and placed on this flower by yours truly - it did fly off)

Social Flycatcher
