June 2013

I led a scouting trip to the upper Midwest in early June, starting from the Duluth, MN, area (boreal forest)
to western Minnesota and eastern North Dakota (prairie and farmland). We ended up with 179 species
of birds and 14 of mammals, fabulous scenery, and a great appreciation for these habitats.

Our principal birding locations were:
A,L: Duluth area including Superior National Forest (B) and the Sax-Zim Bog (D)
H:   Felton Prairie
I:    Jamestown area, including Kidder and Stutsman counties
J:   Maplewood State Park
K:   McGregor Marsh and areas in Aitkin County

The major habitat types were:
