On 3/24/2012, the Birder's
Certificate Program class from Mass Audubon's
Joppa Flats Education Center was treated to an up-close and personal
view
of a Snowy Owl before Norman Smith, owl researcher and director
of the
Blue Hills Trailside Museum, released it on the Parker River National
Wildlife
Refuge on Plum Island.

of the head)

Norm gave us a lively description of Snowy Owl life and his research

before releasing the bird

to fly away, much to the terror
of the local ducks.
Thanks Norman for a great
demonstration and an event the students will remember!
